ICT in South African Education

ICT to us South Africans is something foreign because many schools in the country where we learn everything are not offering the classes where they will teach the skills therefore it makes it difficult for us youth to face the cooperate world. The skills for ICT should start to be offered in Pre-Schools if we want this country to be recognized as the upcoming successful country.

When I remember in high school we had 3 computers, printer, photo copying machine in the staff room and only 1 computer from the 3 had access to internet and the computers were only used by the teachers. They would take turns in typing tests and assignments. We as learners had no access to the computer as they said they were for staff not learners.

I can say I understood why we were not allowed to use the computers, how on earth would they manage to accommodate+700 learners from 3 computers, surely ti wouldn't be possible and it is not the school's fault, it is the government that should provide schools with computers but we are still far from that as a country.

As a teacher in training I see it delaying to each without the use of technology, technological machines saves time and as teachers we need those machines that will save our time and use the time to teach new things to the learners. Therefore as a teacher in training I am urging the South African government to give each teacher a laptop as a resource to do his/her work. "ONE TEACHER ONE LAPTOP"

  1. Well, I also think you are right. The government should, at least, provide computers at schools, especially in primary schools. Children should get the necessary basic information about computers while they are still young.

  2. There is of course a debate raging about the true ability of technology to improve education - yet, we all know that we cannot ignore technology in education!
